Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. Two years later she became a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. She was made the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debates in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. Mitchell traveled with Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss topics including and the Iran Contra scandal.
